The Handicap Cup quarter-final between Tennis A and Central A was a nail-biting affair. With all the players performing in the top flight there was little in the handicaps so it was a slight surprise that Central raced into a 3-0 lead with victories for Peter Millard, Paul Baker and Phil Snelson. Tennis A won the first doubles and then Paul Shakespeare halved with Millard. Snelson won his second singles but Michael Kwan beat Baker and Tennis secured the second doubles to make matters more interesting. Snelson then completed his maximum to put Central on the edge of victory. When Kwan beat Millard and Paul Myers just beat Baker it was all square going into the final doubles. In the event Baker and Snelson easily won and so Central A remain on course to, potentially, win three trophies this season. Another team who could win all three is Crawley Ridge D. They have a large lead in the Fourth Division and are in the divisional cup final and they overcame Ash G 8-4 in the Handicap Cup. David Marchant won all three for them with Eric Wong and Yeuk Wan each winning a couple. The quarter final between Ash A and Tennis B was also decided in the final game. Although both teams ply their trade in the top flight Tennis included a Fourth Division player, John Davis, in their team and he garnered enough points each game to win all his three singles and with George Earle winning twice Tennis reached six first. Dave Gilham had won a couple of singles and the first two doubles had been won by Ash so the match score reached 6-5 in Tennis’ favour. On countback Ash were going to win the match if they could secure the final doubles but with the help of a start of 3 Earle and Simon Turner brought Tennis home.
In the Third Division Cup the semi-final between Tennis H and F was a close affair with it being decided in the ninth game. Up to that point Charles Burton and Tushar Vaja had won twice apiece for the H team and Andy Barnard twice for the F team. The deciding game pitted Burton and Barnard against each other and it was Barnard who triumphed to keep Tennis F on track for a league and cup double. The other semi-final was won 8-1 by Frimley E against Tennis G with Keiran Daniel & Steve Lawlor undefeated and Ted Cornell winning a couple.
In the Second Division Cup Ash D beat Cody A 7-2 with Andy Clegg and Paul Creamer returning maximums. The other semi final was even more one-sided with Tennis C beating Ash C 5-1 with Mirko Danso and Colin Baggott undefeated.
As expected Crawley Ridge D progressed to the final of the Fourth Division Cup with an emphatic victory over Ash G. Eric Wong and Yeuk Wan both unbeaten.
