The knockout cup competitions have started with a few first round matches to set up the quarter finals. Holders of the First Division Cup, Central B, had a comfortable 7-2 success over Fleet A. Both Martin Townshend and Scott Ayers were unbeaten for Central. There was a very tight match between Frimley A and Ash A which Ash edged 5-4. There were several tight matches with Ash’s Dave Halfpenny twice coming from two games to nil down to win in the fifth game. He eventually won all three. Nigel Oh and Peter Farrelly each bagged pairs for Frimley.
In the Second Division Cup Tennis C easily overcame Crawley Ridge A, 7-2. Shaun Newbold and Mirko Danso were both unbeaten for Tennis.
In the Third Division Cup Frimley D swept Crawley Ridge C aside with a 7-2 victory. Ramesh Vasudevamurthy and Brian Greenberg went home unbeaten for Frimley. Tennis H recorded an impressive 6-3 success againt Cody B. Charles Burton chalked up a full house for Tennis with Paul Jarvis chipping in with a pair which was matched by Cody’s John Harvey.
In the Fourth Division Cup Crawley Ridge D overpowered Frimley F 7-2. Eric Wong and david Marchant both chalked up maximums.
Some late results from the First Division produced some tight matches. Tennis A eased past Bentley A 6-4 with no player unbeaten. Paul Shakespeare and Michael Kwan bagged braces for Tennis as did Micky Lang and Andrew Bawden for Bentley. Frimley A squeezed past Fleet A, also 6-4. Peter Farrelly was the star performer of the evening for Frimley with a full house. He was supported by Nigel Oh who won a couple as did Fallon Thompson for Fleet.
