Crawley Ridge A played two semi-finals last week with mixed success. Firstly they played Cody C in the Handicap Cup and triumphed, quite easily, 7-2 with unbeaten Corin Moore leading the way with two singles and a doubles victory. Ken Thompson won a couple of singles in support. In the divisional cup Thompson again won twice but a maximum from Les Knight and a brace from Terry French edged Ash E into the final.
In the Third Division Tennis G went a long way to securing the title with a 7-3 victory over second placed Crawley Ridge B. Both Mehrdad Abutalebi and Peter Bone picked up maximums. Tennis G will definitely finish in the top two. At the other end of the table Tennis F secured a massive, 9-1, win over Fleet B. Charles Burton and Tushar Vaja both secured full houses whilst David Lewis won a couple. It will be a miracle if Fleet B do not finish in the bottom two.
Bentley A has moved to the top of the First Division after a narrow 6-4 victory over Tennis B and a whitewash of Frimley A. In the Tennis match they were indebted to a maximum from Micky Lang and a double from Graham Diplock. This was matched by Tennis’ Michael Kwan. Lang and Diplock were joined by Crispian Knight in the whitewash of Frimley. Central B beat Ash B 7-3 with Martin Townshend undefeated and Ramesh Bhalla and Andy Appleby supporting with duos. Two man Ash A eased past Tennis C with both Dave Phelps and Dave Halfpenny recording trios. Tennis A beat Fleet A 8-2 with Eliot Tilley the star performer with a full house. Team mates Paul Myers and Rod Kay supported with braces.
Cody A moved to the top of the Second Division with an 8-2 success over Tennis E. Both Peter Anthony and Keith Russell were unbeaten with Phil Russell assisting with a pair. Frimley C secured a welcome victory, 6-4, against fellow strugglers Tennis D. Anthony Connelly led the way for Frimley with a maximum and he was well supported with a duo from Gary Nicholson. Pu Zhang won twice for Tennis.
With Crawley Ridge C’s 7-3 victory over Braybrooke B the top two has virtually been sealed. In this latest success Yuriy Schulzhenko secured another full house whilst Mark Stephenson weighed in with a duo. This was matched by Braybrooke’s Sandra Jackson. Frimley F appear likely to join the Camberley outfit in the higher tier after they beat Ash F 8-2. Ted Cornell led the way with a maximum whilst team-mates Gary Smith and Steve Lawlor both bagged braces losing out to Ash’s Graham Thomas. Cody E shared the points against two-man Tennis H. Ken Lewington won all three for Tennis. Cody F and Ash G also split the points with nobody winning all three. Norrie Short and Nigel Willshire both won twice as did Ray Mears and John Hutchinson for Ash. Fleet C edged past Tennis J thanks to an Alan Yeung maximum and a duo from John Allan. Keith Johnson won twice for Tennis.
