Defending champions, Ash H, started this season’s Handicap Cup campaign with a tight 7-5 victory. Ben Carr led the way winning his three singles and two doubles. Darren Milstead supported with two singles. David Marchant won twice for Crawley Ridge. Cody C also won their first round match 7-5 this against Bentley B. The decisive factor was Cody winning all the three doubles. Everybody won at least one singles with Bentley’s Paul Farrant easily winning all his matches. Bruce McPherson won two singles for Cody. Braybrooke A put their difficult league form behind them easily beating Tennis C. Three sets were shared with both Dick Deacon and Robert Hawes unbeaten in their singles.
One Second Round match was played with Central A despite having two players, Phil Snelson and Paul Baker, playing off the highest possible handicap, beating Cody A 9-3. Snelson won all three singles and contributed to a doubles success. Baker and ramesh Bhalla both won two singles as did Cody’s Peter Anthony.
In the Second Division Old Woking maintained their excellent start to the season with a whitewash of Frimley B. Vijay Bhaskar, Gordon Aplin and Bill Matlock comprised the winning trio. Ash C and Tennis E shared the points with Nigel Tustin bagging a brace for Ash. Both George Carder and Pu Zhang bagged braces for Tennis.
