The first silverware of the season has been won when Crawley Ridge B beat Tennis H in the Fourth Division Cup Final. The match started well for Crawley Ridge with Peter Greenwood-Sleep overcoming John Page and Richard Pape beating Graham Dorey but Tennis hit back when Keith Johnson proved too good for Richard Hornby and Page beating Pape. Greenwood-Sleep put the Camberley outfit back ahead against Johnson but Dorey eased past Hornby to make the match score 3-3. That was the closest Tennis came to winning because Crawley Ridge won the remainder of the matches to win 6-3. Greenwood-Sleep was unbeaten.

The two semi-finals in the First Division Cup were hard fought with Tennis A just pipping Central A 5-4. Phil Snelson won all three for Central and Rod Kay and Paul Myers each won twice for Tennis. With Peter Millard beating Eliot Tilley the decider was between Tilley and Ramesh Bhalla. Tilley managed to win in four games to get Tennis into the final. Bentley A beat Central B 5-2 with Andy Mudie notching another trio and Micky Lang and Steve French supporting with a win apiece. Mark Handcock won the Central points.

There was another exciting semi-final in the Second Division Cup when Fleet A entertained Tennis D. Tennis stormed into a 2-0 lead when David Jarvis beat John Upham and Michael Kwan overcame Lawrence Dack. Fleet replied with wins for David Joyce over Dave Hewitt, Dack over Jarvis and Upham over Hewitt. Kwan restored parity with a critical win over Joyce but Dack beat Hewitt to give Fleet the lead again. Both players went into the eighth match knowing that, in all likelihood, the tie depended on this set. Jarvis started well easily winning the first two games but Joyce hit back with the next two. Jarvis was not finished and won the fifth to level the tie. As expected Kwan beat Upham to remain undefeated and Tennis eased into the final. The other semi-final was won by Broadmoor A 5-3 against Ash C. Pu Zhang and Tony Gabriel both won twice for Broadmoor as did Nigel Tustin for Ash.

In the remaining Third Division Cup semi-final Frimley C, as expected, beat Ash E 7-2. Bob Walker was unbeaten for Frimley with colleagues Peter Farrelly and John Eade each winning twice.

In the league Frimley A played a couple of matches in the First Division losing to Central A 9-1 and Ash B 7-3. In the Central match Robin Pretty and Phil Snelson were both unbeaten for Central with Peter Millard winning a couple. The Ash B trio, Chris Dury, Nick Lynch and James Wyncoll all won twice as did Tim Ngyou for Frimley.

In the Third Division Cody D edged away from the relegation zone with a 6-4 victory over Frimley D. Dean Hewitt secured a full house for Cody with team-mate Fan Lei winning a couple this was matched by Frimley’s Anthony Connelly.
