The First Round of the Handicap Cup produced an overwhelming win for the holders, Cody D, against Crawley Ridge B 12-0. Bob Fenner, Dean Hewitt and John Asprey picked up the points. Thankfully the remaining matches were much closer. Frimley A and Bentley B finished 6-6 so the result had to be determined by counting back and, on this basis, Bentley prevailed by a single point. This was checked by both teams. Nigel Oh won all his singles and Tim Ngyou won twice for Frimley. Gordon Traviss won a couple for Bentley but the deciding element was the doubles which were all won by Bentley. Tennis D beat their fellow club mates, the A team, 7-5. The singles were important for the D team with Dave Jarvis unbeaten and Dave Hewitt winning a couple. Broadmoor B also won 7-5, this against Cody F. Yet again the doubles proved crucial with Broadmoor winning all three. Norrie Short had been unbeaten for Cody and Mark Armstrong won two singles for the victors. Crawley Ridge A beat Tennis F by 7-5 as well. Russell Gibbs won all three for Crawley Ridge with Ken Thompson chipping in with a pair which was matched by Tennis’ Darren Brown,
The last remaining first round match in the Fourth Division Cup was completed with Ash H grabbing an unexpected 5-4 win over Cody E. Kim Phillips won all three for Cody with Darren Milstead and Ben Carr each bagging a brace for Ash.
In the First Division Ash A proved too strong for Cody A, winning 8-2. Nick Mills and Dave Halfpenny each recorded maximums for Ash. Tennis C eased past Frimley A 6-4. Graham Diplock was unbeaten for Tennis with Paul Massey supporting with a duo. Nigel Oh won a couple for Frimley.
In the Second Division Bentley B beat Tennis E 8-2. Phil Hales and Robin Street both won all their matches for Bentley. Ash C overcame Frimley B 7-3 with Alan Gess notching a trio and Nigel Tustin a couple for Ash. Hudson Foley won a couple for Frimley.
In the Third Division Frimley continued their drive to promotion with a whitewash against Ash F. John Eade, Pete Good and Derek Seager continued their dominance of the division. Ash E picked up an 8-2 victory over Cody D. Both Amy Parkes and Jo Bartlett notched up trios.
In the Fourth Division Fleet B moved into second spot after a draw with Tennis J and a narrow defeat 6-4 against Broadmoor C. Rob Brook won five out of six in the matches for Fleet with doubles for Charles Burton and Dave Lewis for Tennis in the draw and Gabriel Ailioae unbeaten for Broadmoor. Ryan Baldry supported with a couple.
