In the first Division of the Aldershot & District table tennis league two man Central B scored an impressive win over Broadmoor A, in-form Robin Pretty kept up his classy start to start to the season winning all three, Dave Phelps chipped in with two and the dynamic duo combined in the doubles to top off a 6-4 triumph. Paul Myers’ good form continued as his three, equalled by team mate Simon Turner, meant Tennis B brushed aside Cody A 9-1, elsewhere three good wins by Clive Asprey and two from Sameer Pathak saw Frimley A to a 7-3 success over Challener for whom Trevor Spraggs chalked up a couple.
In the second Division Peter Killick, Graham Marshall and Andy Murdock all bagged braces as Tennis E beat Bentley B 6-4 but none could get the better of Robin Street. Ash C recorded a straight forward 9-1 win over Tennis C, Nigel Tustin and Frank Winnard unbeatable on the night. Tennis D’s Rod Kay was a class apart, his triple sending Cody C home on the wrong end of a 7-3 scoreline, while Cody’s B team fared a whole lot better, thrashing Broadmoor B 9-1, Dario Cereda and Keith Russell both won all three.
No matches went to five but the spoils were shared in a close Division 3 bout nonetheless at Tennis H, who were matched by Frimley E, Michael Fox notching a full house for the visitors. Nick Green battled hard and his three wins were just enough to see Crawley Ridge A gain a five all draw with Frimley C, Robeen Roopun and John Eade with a pair of braces for Frimley. Ash F only turned up with two men against Tennis G, won the doubles but that was all they had to show as Ray Eason, Paul Jarvis and Roger McCulley each picked up two out of two. Ben Fereday won a good couple for Ash G but could only sit and watch as Frimley D plundered the remaining eight games, including three from Anthony Connelly, to run up a routine victory. An Andy Appleby hat trick was the backbone of an 8-2 win for Fleet CC B over the ladies of Ash E and Dave Phillips triumphed thrice for Ash L but two’s from Rob Brook and Roy Chittenden were enough for Fleet CC C to claim a tight tussle 6-4.
In Division 4 Russell Gibbs only lost one end all night on home turf as Crawley Ridge B saw off Cody F 7-3, a doubles victory and two from Kim Phillips were all the visitors could muster. Roger Whichelow showed great stamina in winning all his games in the final end but still ended up on the losing side as his Frimley F were beaten 7-3 by Cody D, Dave Hewitt, Norrie Short and John Asprey all with doubles for Cody.
