Fourth Division Ash H and Second Division Tennis D will fight it out in the Aldershot & District Table Tennis Handicap Cup Final this year, Ash had young Hudson Foley to thank as his three wins over the ladies of Ash E did the business, while Colin Baggott also carded a full house for Tennis in their 5-2 win at Cody E. The Ash youths will have some big starts against their more experienced opponents but each round has thrown up some close shaves so hopefully the finale will live up to the billing.
The Division 1 Cup also saw the finalists confirmed as Broadmoor A and Bentley A. After Broadmoor’s Ian Cole and Mark Handcock both beat talisman Graham Watts there was no way back for Ash as they were eased aside 5-2. The second match of the night all but decided the other semi, Micky Lang surprisingly saw off Phil Snelson 11-7 in the fifth to lay the foundations for Steve French (1) and Andy Mudie (2) to help him wrap the win up for Bentley 5-3.
Frimley D won a thriller to book their place in the Div 3 Cup final at the expense of Ash D. Jon Ball held his nerve in the deciding rubber against Terry French taking it 13-11 in the fourth as Frimley came through 5-4.
There was also a semi final in the Division 4 Cup, Ray Mears won two five setters on his way to three wins for Ash J as they beat Cody E 5-2, Mick Strode plundered two for Cody but his 11-8 in the fifth loss to Mears meant the end of their chances.
