Martin Townshend and Graham Watts both continued their good form, winning three each as Ash A handed out an 8-2 thumping to Cody A in Division 1 of the Aldershot & District Table Tennis League.
Dave Jarvis bagged a triple for Tennis C as they beat Broadmoor B 8-2 in the Second Division, while Tennis D handed out a 7-3 beating to Cody B, Paul Shakespeare thrice victorious for the victors.
The rest of the week was taken up with cup action as follows…Two Ash teams are to make up the final of the Handicap cup as the J team overcame Central A 5-1, a score line mirrored by the H team against Cody F. Unfortunately for Central they could only field two men so Paul Massey’s 44-42 victory over Brian Lunn was the only high point for them in an uphill battle. George Carder and Josh Taylor both beat Phil Snelson by a single point, making full use of their 36 point starts and Brian Lunn rounded off a night to forget for Snelson as his 50-44 victory left the Northern giant winless for once. In the other semi Alan Richards won the tightest clash of the evening 40-38 over Roger Fletcher for Cody’s one success but Ash H ran away with the other five matches winning each by six points or more, Dave Phillips and Ron Davies won two each to lead their team to the final.
Central A were in action again, this time in the Division 1 cup semi final and it was a much happier affair for Phil Snelson as his two, coupled with a duo from Paul Myers helped them to a 5-3 win against Tennis A, Simon Turner put up a good fight for Tennis with two fine wins over Myers and Denny Perrett.
Top of the table Ash C lived up to their favourites billing in the Division 2 cup final as they comfortably beat Fleet CC A 5-1, Sameer Pathak edged past Martin Gilbey 12-10 in the final end but Alan Gess and Mike Levey helped out their captain with two wins each to steady the ship and see Ash to the win.
Finally Ash E reached the final of the Division 3 cup with a 5-3 victory over Farnham Cohesion A, Ash had that man Les Knight (3) to thank once again as he handed out the winning blow to Nick Green (2).
